Often times, the industries, businesses, and skills we're the most familiar with are the ones that are the least rewarding...
Ever think about that?
No one can just become a heart surgeon overnight...or a Hollywood star...or a professional athlete...or a professional public speaker...
These are "specialists." These specialists have sacrificed a LOT to get where they are, practiced their skill for years and years and in most cases, their whole life. They are masters. The barriers to enter are high. Very few people can get in, even fewer can stay in. Those who try to get in, often don't stay in.
Here's the point:
Deep down inside, all of us at some point or another would have loved to have been a Hollywood star perhaps, a professional athlete, or some sort of icon in something. It's just how we're programmed as humans. Just look at how infatuated our society is with celebrities. The truth of the matter is, it will never happen for most.
But there is one skill anyone can learn that, when mastered, can create as much success, exposure, prosperity, and elite status as any of those mentioned above. In fact, it's one of the very first skills we learn when we start school at a young age...
It's the skill of "writing." Better known in the business world as "copywriting." It's a tiny, underground world many will never know yet, it's a world that quietly creates fortunes and expert status for those who travel deep enough down this path. I've watched ordinary, everyday people with zero background in this area, even with little schooling turn their ideas into fortunes by becoming good at the art of persuasive writing, aka: copywriting.
Essentially, copywriting is "salesmanship in print." It's been around since biblical times. World wars have been solved by the use of the right words in print. As the saying goes - "words are like weapons."
I've been fascinated with the skill of copywriting for a couple of years now. I've taken a few course, been to seminars, and I'm always reading a book on the subject...and I'm no where near where I want to be. A good copywriter is a "specialist." Kind of like a heart surgeon. People will travel from any point on the universe to see the best heart surgeon, and they'll pay any amount of money for the numero uno heart surgeon. Businesses quietly do the same.
Everything you do in your business will ultimately come down to you "writing" effectively. Think about it - from your ads, to what your web site says, your Email follow up messages, to your Blog posts, and your social media messages. Even your videos need to say something somewhere for someone to press play. People don't just click on videos anymore (or anything else for that matter). They need to be led...with words. Not just any words. Persuasive words. Good copywriting. "Salesmanship in print"...
Because at the end of the day, we're all selling something whether its our products or services or simply our ideas for the weekend to our friends. Heck, at one point or another you had to sell your spouse on why they should marry you. Well, some of you that is...
This is a world worth knowing about, a path well worth going down. I promise. Everything you do will benefit from you being a better, more persuasive writer, maybe even one day a "copywriter"- a true specialist. And it's skill we ALL have inside of us, it just needs to be polished a bit...
Best,
Andrew J. Cass
